In a joint effort to help the low-income senior citizens of the area, The Des Moines Senior Services
Advisory Committee, The Des Moines Activity Center, The Enhanced Public Safety Committee,
www.publicsafe.org, and the Des Moines Police, with funds provided by the Des Moines Legacy
Foundation, have put together an Emergency Disaster Kit. It is specifically designed for emergency
situations the area experienced in winter of 2006. Brenda Anders-Larson, Senior Outreach Specialist
said "if you or someone you know is over 55 years of age and has a single household income of less than
$27,250 a year or a couple's income of less than $31,151, please contact the Des Moines Senior Activity
Center." People can call 206-878-1642 or email Brenda at brendaa@seniorservices.org for more
information on obtaining these kits.
Kit items include hand-crank flashlight/radio combos, batteries, blankets and
water. Kits are available at the Senior Center @ 2045 S. 216th St., Monday thru
Friday 8am-4pm.
