On Monday August 6, 2007, to help jumpstart the National Night Out festivities, a group of concerned citizens, DM Police/volunteers and South King Fire met in a Des Moines neighborhood, made signs and marched down the streets in support of the National Night Out against crime. The next night many neighborhoods held block parties designed to increase community unity and law enforcement and community partnerships to help give CRIME a going away party. Des Moines Police Community Service Officer Promise Tachtevrenidou said "it is good to see the citizens get actively involed in joining with the public safety agencies to bring about public awareness of crime in our neighborhoods." |
